Vogue Italy. All sizes Welcome.

Um HELLO Italian Vogue- when do you become the most progressive fashion magazine to hit stands? Yes, you have always been fabulously Vogue, but last months issue had an extra special twist, featuring three of the worlds most renowned plus size models- ON THE COVER! Miss Tara Lynn, Candice Huffine, and Robyn Lawley were perfectly poised in smoking hot lingerie, almost as startling as the trio garnering Vogue Italia’s June cover. And while Franca Sozzani (Vogueit’s current editor-in-chief) has been known to take risks and challenge the norms in fashion- this cover was truly a breath of fresh air among the stale monotony of pin-thin models and unrealistic shapes that rule the runway.
While I myself am a size 4 and have been for most of my adult life, I really respect these photos and enjoy the feelings that I get from the editorial. It’s no lie that fashion ignites images of beautiful women weighing less than a normal twelve year old. I even feel pressure in my own life, as a fashion stylist and a twenty-three year old woman who loves fashion, but loves food and wine as well. The balance is so unnerving. And to see Vogue Italy take a stance and put REAL women on the cover of their June issue, is truly inspiring. I’ve been in countless fittings where I bring sizes 0,2,4 to fit the models and many times try on a few things at home- I’ve always laughed at the difference in the way the clothes looked on me vs. them. But there is really nothing that any of us should be ashamed of- life is not lived for the size on the label of your dress but rather the feeling you have walking with your head high regardless of that number. My greatest hope is that one day, regardless of size, fashion will be fashionable for all.
