The Little Prada that Could!

Posted on Wed, Apr 13, 2011

We’ve all heard the story about the little Engine that Could (you know similar to the Ugly Duckling- the little Engine (even with how small he is) ends up prevailing) well this blog is about a little Prada that could. It all started this last Saturday night. I was out on the town with some friends, checking out a new restaurant lounge named Airr, then a little late night dancing at Sidebar- well a few shots were involved and silly me left without her purse. Now, I must say that I have never lost or left any other of my beautiful bags but this night was different. Being the least of my worries at the end of the night, it was not until 6:23 the next morning that I heard a loud knock at my front door. Strange that I would even be mildly awake at this hour (on any day of the week), but my dear friend Desiree was in company and cajoling me into going to an alumni event for our sorority. Lucky for me, I heard the knock, went to the door and was greeted by three people. Being in the slight haze of early morning combined with a large hangover, I could not remember what these people looked like- but I did notice something familiar… MY PURPLE PRADA!
As you can imagine, this was quite the shock to me for reasons a.) I had no idea my Prada was gone, b.) who were these nice people and c.) what were they doing at my apartment at 6:23 in the morning? All confusion aside I graciously thanked and praised these little Prada angels and proceeded with my morning. The revelation that there are actually people nice enough in this world to return someone’s satin purple Prada clutch with everything remaining inside, was astonishing. After listening to a Voicemail on my phone, the little angels asserted that they had found the bag a block from my house in the gutter and looked for the address, saw how close it was and proceeded to return it.
Now if this isn’t enough to blow your mind, please continue reading, because below I have copied and pasted the email I received one day after the bag was replaced. And this email is more shocking than anything…

From: Angel Marckwordt to Amy Grace Winn:
Dear Amy,

My name is Angel Marckwordt and my friends Shawn, Shawn, Casey and I found your Prada purse yesterday morning and judging by your joyous reaction, we are very happy you got it back. I would somehow love to tell you that we had to fight off giant lions to keep them from eating your purse (or peeing on it.)

Anyway, we are in the process of building a DREAM from scratch in San Diego; the dream is a film and video game development studio called SKYROCK|FILMS (Named after the meteorite I found in the lost coast, Northern California six months ago.) and our purpose is to make movies that make people laugh. But there is this… hmmm (almost insignificant little detail about making our dream a reality just yet)… See, we are homeless. 0=)

And even though our spirits are strong and our moral high. From time to time it would be great to give them a little push forth! by enjoying a delicious cup of Starbucks coffee in the cold-early mornings.

Amy, I hope… wait, we hope; that by finding and returning your personal valuables, we have saved you the hassle of having had to report your credit cards stolen and have also saved you the inconvenience of having to waste other valuable time standing in line for hours trying to get another ID from the DMV etc…

Your personal information is safe with us; I am a former United States Marine and the bedrock of my personality is Honor, Courage and Commitment.

I pray that you can read my words for what they are, feel them for what they are, and not mark our actions with the knowledge that they stand apart from your ability to reciprocate them. Please take them in your heart, feel them with your eyes closed and your soul open.

Because my vision is to build a Skyscraper that will house the Film and Video Game Development studios in San Diego. At the entrance of the building, underneath the Meteorite there will be a bronze plaque that reads: “When YOU wish upon a star, sometimes Dreams DO come true.” SKYROCK|FILMS is that dream manifested into reality.”

And who knows? maybe one day during an important event (when we are giving back to this community by helping out the vets and homeless in general) you can casually tell your gorgeous friends… “I collaborated in the making of SKYROCK… Yup, I helped them make their dream a reality… when the guys were starting out, I bought them Starbucks coffee to keep them motivated.” ;)

Thank you Amy! ;)

Cordial Regards,

Angel Marckwordt & Team (Shawn, Shawn & Casey)

P.S. Oh and… in case you were wondering, no one peed on your purse, the purse was already wet. Really. ;D

All jokes aside, this is such a strange, beautiful, unreal thing to happen… right? Seriously, am I a crazy idealist for wanting to help these people fulfill their dreams of becoming film and video game makers? I was able to start my own company, why shouldn’t they be able to? After all being homeless shouldn’t hold you back from your dreams, right? I need some advice GS readers- Do I help, or not? I mean they did return my Prada, with EVERYTHING in it…. let me know your thoughts and check these guys out- maybe we can all help a little? I think so…
xoxo
