I’ve gotta Theory!

Posted on Fri, Mar 25, 2011

That’s right, I’ve gotta theory, and it’s about the latest Spring collection from famed RTW line, THEORY. This season, design houses everywhere are lightening up with soft fabrics and colorful additions to the minimalist trend that has been taking over for the past year. And the contemporary sportswear line known for their modern take on the classic suit is no exception. I’ve been a fan of the line ever since I first started interviewing for internships during college. And while it was a bit tricky to explain the $500 credit card charge to my mom, I soon learned that the idea “quality over quantity” is the best explanation for most everything in life (most particularly when it comes to shopping). To aid in my argument I made sure to point out the flawless tailoring, modern cut, and fabric that could last a good five to ten years. And ladies and gentleman, I am happy to report that I still have that first Theory suit and wear it frequently, together and as separates.
But back to the present day, Spring 2011, and the latest collection set forth by Theory. Part of my loyalty to the brand has to do with their deep understanding of how clothing should fit a woman without looking too old or too large. They keep things classic, but have been consistent with adding new pieces like dresses, tops, and great knitwear over the past few years. And this collection is right on with a great variety to complement any fashionistas spring wardrobe.
Let us begin with the paintball stretch silk dress that would be a perfect pairing for an afternoon soiree or a spunky date night. This look is all about not taking yourself too seriously. While my assistant Erin vowed she would never be caught dead in something so resemblant to a twister game, I have to disagree. I think with the right styling (loose curls and a patent nude pump), this dress will turn heads- and for the right reasons, ERIN! Next is a look for our ladies who not only play hard, but work hard. Whether your interviewing for a dream job, impressing a client, or you just want to show up your colleagues- any and all of these suiting pieces are perfect to pair together or wear as separates. You can’t go wrong with white cotton pants and a grey fitted blazer for spring.
In the words of Jay-Z, “On to the next one” where we have Theory’s take on the jump suit. Why is this look so chic? First is the floral, followed by a cinched waist, and a perfectly placed hemline. I recommend styling this look with a wide belt in either black or tan with a great pair of wedges. This look screams “I’m cooler than you, but I don’t have to say it”, and don’t we all want to secretly say that? Lastly is my favorite look of the most recent Theory collection, the Lavanien Stripe Jersey Dress. Not only is it long sleeved (my favorite kind of dress) but it’s made out of jersey- the softest fabric ever! I love this look because it has a certain ease about it. The elastic drop wait and opposing diagonal lines are just so chic. I’m trying my hardest not to buy it, but I can’t stop you (and that’s why if you click the picture above, it will take you directly to Saks.com where you can indulge, guilt free). So best dressing to all you Theorists out there.

xx
